It strikes me that there is much learning from the falling snow and confess that most times, the beauty of winter escapes me. I am most attracted to the dazzling colors of fall. Here I blaze a trail of orange, exciting and vibrant, living a life of purpose. Yet, when I am not careful, get easily caught up in self-importance and the desire to lead rather than follow. In spring, I am tempted to wallow in the rainy season, feeling blue and isolated. It is here I wear my favourite old sweater, marked by a scarlet letter. The baggy wool clothing camouflages a shameful past and I am paralyzed by fear. In summer, I am enticed by the green light of success which becomes the tightrope I balance on. I choose to stand apart and happiness eludes me. More than often, I find myself grasping at thin air, trying with all my might to avoid falling.
Today, I appreciate the solace of winter and how the white blanket of snow conceals all that came before it. It is here that I humble myself before Jesus, inviting Him to wash me clean. All offenses are erased by the blood of the new covenant. His gentle touch reminds me, I am a child of God. I do matter. I am unique, not because I love him, but because he first loved me. It is here that I belong.
