Everything used to be either black or white,
The choices that we made, either wrong or right!

Now that I’m older, it’s a different day;
It seems everything is just the shade of gray!

We’re told it’s alright to tell a “little” lie,
In case that it will help you to “just get by.”

Marriage was intended “to death do us part.”
It was a full commitment of self, and heart!

Marriage today, is not even the real plan,
After all, you might want a different man!

Years ago, a child could depend on their home.
Never had to worry if papa would roam.

Oh yes, they might argue, not always agree,
Yet, determined, children should have security.

They loved more deeply since they had said, “I do”
Each Sunday, the family sat in their church pew!

When an unexpected child, came to their home,
There was never a thought to destroy body and bone.

They knew the greater plan was made by God above.
When that child arrived it was surrounded by love.

People didn’t desire each thing they might see;
Accepted their plight, and were glad to be free!

We had a family altar, and loved God’s Word,
Were taught to shape our lives by those things we heard!

We never dared to take our Lord’s name in vain’
We had the desire to raise our family the same!

I’m glad to have been raised when white was really white.
And I pray God will heal, and make this world right!

...Enjoyed your poem. Rhythm, rhyme, and meter are good. There has always been just as much sin in the hearts of men as there is today, only perhaps it wasn't acted on as openly and quickly at it seems now.

I think this is a really good piece. I also think that things have changed - this nation used to believe "in God we trust". When I was in high school in the 60s there was only one girl in a class of almost 600 who had parents who were divorced that I can remember. There was no abortion (not legal anyhow and not thousands/millions of babies). I definitely think we have become more like Sodom and Gomorrah and more openly too as a nation. Yes, sin existed back then but it is much more blatent now (I can't spell) Marijo
