In the middle of a rainbow you will find a color. It is neither cold not hot, dark or bright. This color holds a special place on the spectrum, sandwiched between red, orange and yellow and blue, idigo and violet; it is alone, but holding it all together.
You will find the most life on earth in the greenest places on earth. With great spanning leaves or legions of sharp pointy needles, plants and trees adorn themselves in all shades. It changes the life giving energy of the sun into our very breath.
We gasp in awe of a majestic redwood which has claimed a spot of earth as its very own for thousands of years or a towering pine desperately gripped to a cliff but still pointed straight towards the heavens. It gives us life. We exhale and it breaths in.
Green is our counterpart. What it produces is essential to our being alive. Food and breath, no wonder green has come to be synonymous with life. Not only does it give us the most basic and necessary things but it cleans up after us. What plants don’t need gives us life what we don’t need gives them life.
Smothering desert heat leaves little room for green; frigid arctic cold kills all life. It is in the middle of these two extremes where life is found. The spectrum of life depends on this color in the middle. It is an indispensable link in the circle of life; it holds it all together.
