Darkness

I lived through some of the darkest of times
When my world became so black
That all I wished for was an end
An end that would take me out of my lack

I prayed to the Lord every day
To save my soul from the depth of the pit I was in
To open my eyes and let me see
The colors of a rainbow he drew for me

There is no other way to explain this darkness
But to have been there yourself
With no hope of ever seeing a day of light
Let alone see anything else

I never lost the love of God
He was there every step of my way
Sometimes I wonder if I have truly come
Out of that darkness into the light of day

Each time I travel to the pain of my past
I feel the darkness draw around me
I feel the intensity of its power
As long as I hang onto the love of Jesus
I know the light can overcome any darkness
From anywhere or anyone

There are those who ridicule me when I expose the truth
Of the darkness that I see wherever I look
Jesus instructed me to do this on my life path
To give others a chance to change
To see themselves and what they took

If I had my life to do over again
I wouldn’t change a thing
Not even the most painful places I have been

If I follow Jesus he will always lead me
Through the darkness to His everlasting Light
Which He has painted within my sight

Good thoughts and descriptions.

God always has purpose for our pain and it is often so that we can help others in the future. Your poem was a good way of expressing such thought.

Very good--to compare your pre-Christ life to a black hole.

This poem is sometimes rhymed and metered, sometimes not, so it's a little distracting to the reader.

Wonderful thoughts and sentiments!
