Lifeless, dark and empty
That’s the way it used to be
Void of the four rivers, the Garden and the Tree
Blackness and desolation
Nothing but nothingness below
Before Your waters burst forth, before the rapid flow
Your Spirit hovered over a vast and empty space
And with words spoken of power and of might
Said “Let there be light…”
Nothing became something
Something beautiful
By the movement of Your hand from up above
Dark became light
And lifeless was breathed life
The wonders of Your majesty, for all to see
Nothing became something out of love
Disobedient, ashamed and fallen
The precedent set by Eve
Ruined by desire for power, a lack of trust in Thee
Death, pain and suffering
The consequence of sin was owed
Before You sent the Messiah, the man and God of hope
Jesus walked the streets of this soiled, broken place
And with words spoken of power and of might
Said “I AM the light…”
Nothing became something
Something beautiful
By the sacrifice of Your Son from above
Dark became light
And lifeless was breathed life
The magnitude of Your grace, for all to see
Nothing became something out of love
Apart from You I was nothing
Now I’m something beautiful
I belong to the Most High and Holy One
You are the light…
May we be light…
Let there be light…
