It was a solemn Good Friday service. While the congregation sang the last verse of "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross," pastor John got up and walked to the front of the platform, and stood there until the Hymn ended.

All eyes turned to pastor as he announced, "It is time for the children's message. I would like to have the children to come forward."

There was noise as children began to talk and the sound of footsteps as the children walked to the front of the church. They sat down on the steps in front of the platform.

Pastor smiled bent down said, "Hey kids, do you know what this black thing is I am wearing around my neck?"

A few of the kids spoke up and said, "No!"

"It is called a vestment. There are churches where pastors wear them. I normally don't wear one.

"They have them in different colors. This one is black; do you know why it is black?"

A few of the kids shouted out answers, but they were not the ones that was the right answer.

"It is black today because it is Good Friday. This is the day that we remember what Jesus did for us on the cross.

"Do you know what Jesus did for us on the cross? asked pastor.

A little girl in the group softly said, "He died."

"Do you know why Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday?'

A cute little boy spoke up, "So he could forgive our sins."

"Very good, He was innocent and took our place. It is like he gave us a bridge so we can live with Jesus someday. If he didn't die we all would go to hell. Black is a color that symbolic of death and it is also symbolic of sin. Jesus died so that we can go from the color black to white."

"Are you not glad for what Jesus did?"

There was a loud, "Yes" heard from the children.

"Now you can go back to your parents, and now brother Bill will read the next portion of scripture, on what happened at the cross," as pastor got up and went back to his seat.

Well written. Plain and simple. Even a child can understand.Just the way the Father wanted it to be.

God blesses young minds with the ability grasp things with which we often struggle as adults. I hope to pass on this simplicity of teaching to the children who come through my home, and that they would understand it simply too.

Nice children's story, would be good in a Sunday School paper.
