Some colors bring about hunger or sleepiness or an emotion. The sight of some colors can make you feel tired or excited, happy or sad. Color is important when we decide on our wardrobe, painting a kitchen, or even the food we order at a restaurant.
The color red means many things to many people. When I was a child the color red was not allowed in our wardrobe, because it was the color of “loose” women. To some, red is the color of anger, a color that indicates extreme irritation. Red is a stimulant; it excites people. When women want to wear a “power suit”, red is an effective choice, it exudes power, control and attracts attention.
To me the color red is the color of love. Not the love of Valentines Day, but the most amazing love of all. It’s the kind of love that surpasses all others, the love of my Lord. Red is the color of the blood he shed for me, the color that covers a multitude of sins. Red is not a color that is easily seen through, which is why it covers my sins. If I spill red cool-aid on my carpet, that stain is not coming out, red is there to stay, it is permanent. And so is God’s blood, it will always be there. Red is power, there is power in the blood of Jesus, the power to heal, the power to cover, the power to set free.
Red is an amazing color and I’m thankful for it, because when I see it, I see God.
