The job you gave me now is ended.
The boss, he says it’s time to rest.
The wages have accumulated,
with just a pittance to invest.
We’ve planned a cruise, redecorated,
landscaped the garden, bought a car.
The dance group we definitely hated,
and sneaked out early to the bar!
Friday we have the grandkids sleeping’
while parents go out for the night.
We’ve spent all day a watch a-keeping,
and hope they sleep until it’s light.
As dawns incontinence and deafness,
another ache, another day.
The nagging voice is never silent,
nor dies the lists of jobs away.
The son that bids on dogs is asking
us for a loan to pay his dept.
Each new day our account is shrinking
and soon we’ll have a room to let!
So be it Lord; our home shall never
be sold to pay them for our care.
This bungalow is ours forever
then when we’re gone it’s theirs to share.
