“I don’t mind reaching this stage in my busy life. It helps to know that I am not alone, being surrounded by others in the same daily rut! I just keep busy and do what I was created to do.”
“Annie, are you talking to yourself again?”
“It goes with the mid life territory! It helps me to keep focused and avoid my senior moments. I’m not really sure the coming retirement plans for me are such a good idea! If our supervisor sees I am needed, maybe she will keep me on a little bit longer.”
“What do you like the most about your responsibilities?”
“You know me; I have a co-dependent personality! I am always trying to fix and repair things! I look for breaks in “the nest” and try to super glue things back together. If the foundation breaks down our family unit suffers.”
“O Annie, you need to lighten up? You can’t do everything! Leave some of the work to others!”
“Sometimes I feel like a combination waitress and sanitation engineer! Life revolves around food! I deliver food and I carry off garbage…”
“I know what you mean! Are you ready to go after groceries?”
“I am not sure if I have the courage, yet. I might not survive the trip. Predators are everywhere. I live in constant fear of being eaten alive or ground into the dust!”
Such is the mid life crisis for the typical female ant in her colony called home. Only the oldest leave the ant bed seeking food, and usually do not survive the expedition. Ladies and gentleman let’s keep working! The dictionary definitions for retirement are enough to put the fear in anyone. Read it for yourself; I found no pot of gold there, only words of pulling away, isolation and quitting. You have too much to offer a lost and dying world; repair some broken foundations; and keep the nourishment of God’s word in circulation. We can learn valuable lessons from Ms. Annie! “The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer (Proverbs 30:25 NKJ).” What are you preparing? The recipes are endless!
