This is mostly the perspective of a male child.
Being a kid consists of faded bluejeans and worn tennis shoes to start. A kid has a best friend with whom he shares his darkest secrets and a hideout. There is a group of cohorts who have common interests and spend time together. A boy doesn't have much use for little girls. They are just there taking up space. Little girls don't have much use for little boys. So it is right back at you. Mutual attraction comes much later.
Childhood is a time of attending school. Learning starts with preschool for some but many begin in kindergarten where first friendships are starting to be forged. By third grade best friends are cemented in stone for a few years. There is usually a disliked teacher and a favorite teacher. These both seem to be prerequisites for youthful learners. There is studying hard which is best, and there is hardly studying. On the latter homework seems to be filled with forgotten reading assignments. What child has worried being called on to discuss last night's reading luckily to be passed over mercifully. There seems to be just enough time to finish yesterday's written homework during class and turn it in before the day is over. What would school be like without sweet recess? The saving of many a restless soul. A home run in softball and elementary school is made golden. Recess works up an appetite for most children.
Being a kid has certain dietary needs. Pizza is a must for most children's diets, and don't ever forget the hamburgers and french fries. Dependent upon Dad and Mom there is always a chance for steak on Saturday and fried chicken on Sunday. These are often kid pleasers. A delicious bowl of ice cream is usually welcome by any child. We have various fudges, Brownies and pies. There is an abundant array of foods for the kids. Actually many adults' tastes have changed very little since childhood.
Being a kid is a little bit of many things. It's learning to crawl, then walk, then run, and riding that first bicycle without falling. Childhood is full of scrapes and scratches. Mom tends to those quite handily thank goodness. A kid can lie on his back and stare up to the stars at night in wonder with thoughts of a higher power taking care of business in the sky, and all around us. Being a kid is magical and majestic.
