I just love the fall season. In fact I have a list of places that I try to visit. The list of course grows longer and longer with each passing year and I have yet to make it to all the places in one season. One of the places is a nearby park that has a beautiful pond with cattails on one side of it and a hill that gently makes its way down to the waters edge on the other side. The hill has lots of trees on it. When the trees are in their fall colors and the water is perfectly still, the pond reflects the beauty of the leaves on the trees. I can remember standing at the pond’s edge with my camera in hand patiently waiting for the wind to subside. So that the water would become smooth as glass in order to perfectly reflect the beauty of image of the fall trees. When the conditions were just right I would take a series of pictures of the reflection of the leaves on the water. On one set of pictures the reflection of trees on the water looked exactly like the leaves on the trees. It was difficult for me to tell the difference between the water’s reflection and the leaves on the trees.
Another place on my list is a reservoir that is about an hour away. I can remember taking my father there. It was the last major outing we had together before his health deteriorated. God gave us a perfect fall day. It was a warm sunny day and the leaves were at their peak colors.
We drove down the narrow dirt road leading to the reservoir. The road was hemmed in on both sides by trees. There is a creek along the road; some of leaves had fallen into the creek. The trees were at their full colors and the ground was sprinkled with leaves.
The best way to describe the reservoir is that it looks like a gaint horseshoe. It is surrounded by hills on three sides that flow down to a large open grassland area on the remaining end. The grassland is a mixture of tall grasses, marshlands and scattered trees. There is a creek that winds its way through the grassland area.
Very shortly after that my father’s health deteriorated to the point where he was confined to
a bed in nursing home. I still try to visit the reservoir every fall season. I still take fall scenery
pictures there. Hopefully I will be able to share this place with my grandchildren.
