Such Love!

The love that overwhelmed me at the births of my children was indescribable! It was such love! Tiny babies, dependent upon someone else for life’s necessities, whose only way of communicating was through crying or other baby noise, were my whole world. Just making their grand entrance on Life’s stage, they caused me to stand and declare “Bravo! You are marvelous! There is no one else like you!” I was in love!

During those early A.M. feedings, I sang to them, softly, tenderly, and they in turn, “sang” back to me, with coos! I was a full-time working mother with my firstborn, a full-time graduate student with my last-born, so sleep was precious to me. But that baby in my arms wasn’t concerned about my schedule; that baby wanted mama! Sometimes, our “love fest” lasted only as long as that bottle-my baby would fall asleep without a care in the world. Other times, (especially with my girl) our love fest would last an hour or two. Now, she wasn’t colicky, or finicky- she just wanted to coo, and be sung to! I couldn’t stop thinking about my precious gifts from God. I only wanted the best for them! It was during their baby years I got just a glimpse of how our Heavenly Father feels towards us, His children.

Did you know that God sings over you too? He is always yearning to have such a love fest, time alone with just you! Zephaniah 3:17 shows us the Father’s love fest by declaring that God “will rejoice over you with gladness, He will renew you in His love; He will exult over you with loud singing! (Revised Standard Version) Indeed, the Word of God declares “How great is the love that the Father has shown to us!” (1 John 3:1- The New English Bible) When we were in our mother’s wombs, God already knew what plans, what purposes He had in mind for each of us. Just as I only wanted the best for my children how much more does God desire for His children? Because of His love for us, the plans He has in mind are mind-blowing!!! Jeremiah 29:11 states that God alone “knows the plans He has in mind for you…plans for peace, not disaster, reserving a future full of hope for you” (The Jerusalem Bible).

Whether at work or school, I never had to worry about my precious gifts because they were in the best of care with family. But as much love as they were given, still no love matched the love of mommy! When I walked in the room, upon hearing my voice, they wanted me! And of course, I wanted them! No love could ever match the love of God that He has for us!!! We should take our cues from babies, and always be excited in our Father’s presence!!! My children, as they grew and began talking, they would get up in the morning, and would greet me with hugs and kisses, and “good morning mommy!” They didn’t have a care in the world! Every day, we need to get up, eager for the new day with our Heavenly Father, and greet Him with enthusiasm. Greet Him with hugs and kisses of praise and worship. We need to seek His face, hear His voice, and spend time with Daddy. We shouldn’t have a care in this world as well, because our Big Brother Jesus reassured us that “Daddy” well knows that we have need of all these things, and Daddy has got them covered! (Matthew 6:25-33).

Unfortunately, too many people see God in the “wrong” light because we don’t look at Him as “Daddy”. They see Him as the source of any tragedy that befalls them (“why did God allow this to happen to me?”). Or they see Him as the “mean judge”, just waiting for them to ‘mess up” so that He can punish them. We need to allow Daddy to shower His love on us, and sing over us! One songwriter wrote “how gracious, relentless, is the Father’s love toward us!” Think about “such love” that just won’t quit! Ever! “Such love” that causes new mercies to come every morning, and goodness and mercy chasing you all the days of your life. “Such love” that declares you “righteous”, and has given you His splendor. “Such love” that spared not His own Son, and freely gives you all things! Such love that we cry “Abba! Daddy!” O! “Such love”!
