TITLE: Preparation for Spiritual Winter Season
By Gayle Robb

Preparation for Spiritual Winter Season

Here in the good ol’ Midwest region of the country, we are already seeing the signs of the upcoming winter season. These signs tell us to make our necessary preparations in order to live through the winter season. Retailers have coats, sweaters and other items needed to keep us warm on the sales floor. If you go to the housewares department, you will find all the necessary items for canning and preserving fruits and vegetables. And, alas, to many a person’s dismay, there are even signs of the Christmas retail season- just go to any fabrics and crafts store, and I promise you will find Christmas and winter fabrics! Preparation is the key to surviving the winter season. I once heard a very popular minister say “if you don’t prepare for the winter, you won’t survive!”

Just as in the natural we prepare for the impending winter season, we need to be preparing for impending spiritual winter season that will come in all of our lives. All the signs are before us that we are in the beginning stages of the last days. But we need to look continually to the Word of God. This is our key to a successful preparation.

As we stay in the Word, meditate the Word, and act on the Word, we will be comforted and not lose heart. This is not the time for believers to lose their hope and confidence!!! Despite what is going on, this is our time to shine. As the world goes through this very dark, cold winter season of high unemployment, foreclosures, business failures, our “path…is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” (Proverbs 4:18- King James Version)

One thing we need to remember is despite the long, cold dreary days, winter is just a season. Right in the middle of the winter season, we can start seeing signs for the new season, a season of life, renewal and hope. Nothing is more refreshing in winter than see the crocus in all its beautiful royal color, pushing through the snow, shouting “spring is on the way”. And so it is as our path is shining more and more- we’re shouting to the world by our faith in the Word of God that “Jesus is still Lord” and “Jesus is the Way”. We need to take our rightful place of authority and let the world see us as we truly are, the sons of God. Indeed, the Word of God declares that “The whole creation is on tiptoe to see the wonderful sight of the sons of God coming into their own.” (Romans 8:19- The New Testament in Modern English). We have the answer that the world is searching for that this winter season of darkness will end. So during this season, stay in the Word, look to God, and get ready for our season, our season to reign in this life as the sons of God.

Very good article. I like what you said, "Despite what is going on, this is our time to shine." You are right. This is a very good time for Christians to be an example to the world.
