Winter is cold! Embracing this season in life is just another way water runs down a duck’s back. Allowing the snow and blistery, chilly wind blow over me, I continue my leisurely walk. Soon the wind dies down and the early morning walk turns into a more pleasing stroll. I now begin to notice the maker’s hand on each shape of tree, bush, and grass as I more eagerly, intently discern their silvery beauty. The night before there was a huge icy rain which left a different world I had awakened to view. Each blade of dead brown grass that had succumbed to this wintry season now beamed with new luster as the sun glistened and bounced tiny hues of dancing prisms back and forth. Naked limbs of sleeping trees were now completely engulfed in an icy tomb smiling discretely at me, each greeting me coldly yet glowing in an ethereal beauty. Wandering as I pass each tree what beauty they now hide as they sleep for this brief season, as everywhere I looked was shiny and glistening.
I briefly spied the fence surrounding my neighbor’s garden which is also encapsulated in this icy new world. Clumps of what seemed to be sticks or weeds around the garden’s gate appear to look more like golden rods aching to be stored in a chest of illusive treasure. The melodious sound of chirping birds intermittently fill the eerie cold morning quietness. I chuckle to myself thinking how amazing God is, as he has shown me on this early morning walk he gives joy to the little birds that sing his praise; yet, how much more he has given me joy as his child. But, this cold is a bit much and it is now time to return home for that much needed cup of steaming hot chocolaty delight topped with marshmallows and sprinkles of cinnamon spice.
