You are 18 years old and in the eyes of the law you are an adult or are you? You can drive, you
can live on your own, you can go to jail and you can be act as the world does in every adult way
imaginable. ADULT as defined in the Dictionary as a fully grown life form; a fully mature person, animal,
plant, or other form of life. Somebody who is a legal adult; somebody who has reached the age of legal
majority, generally 18 years of age in the United States.
What does it mean to be an adult in God’s eyes? We as Christians remember the story in Luke
when Jesus was obeying the Jewish Law in Jerusalem and chose to stay at the temple with the leaders of
the church to learn and share his God given wisdom, questions and knowledge with these teachers.
Mary and Joseph realized after traveling with the family that Jesus was not among the cousins and
family! He was still back in Jerusalem at the temple. As Jesus described it he was in HIS Father’s House.
When Jesus was found by his parents he was asked why he was there and he then understood that he
needed to be obedient to his parents as he was not yet an adult. As he became an adult he grew in
wisdom and stature and he was in favor of God and men.
As we become adults in Gods eyes we need to keep God’s priorities straight to grow in wisdom
and stature. 1- We must seek spiritual wisdom and insight. 2 - We must pursue God’s will and purpose.
3 - We must have priority of our service and sacrifice in our relationships with others as God would.
So becoming an adult in God’s eyes does not have an age limitation as our world does. We
mature and grow as we choose with God’s help and guidance as we read HIS word and long for our
Father in all we do.
