TITLE: While in My Driveway
By Dawne Biggs

I do quite a bit of driving for my job. I set a lot of client appointments and am always on the go. At any time, however, I could have to stop everything and take an emergency client call. When an emergency does arise, I usually reschedule my planned appointments so I can quickly get to the emergency issue.

My husband says I drive way too fast as I am usually speeding to an appointment. I usually speed from appointments too to get to other ones! I have been fortunate not to spend too much time in traffic jams or rush hour. I try to avoid that at ALL costs!

I have a calendar in my car to help keep all my appointments straight. I would never remember them all unless I kept good notes of where I am going and who I am going to see. I keep a mileage log book too. It has truly been a testimony of my growing organizational skills trying to remember to log my starting mileage each morning! I also have a portable GPS system my husband bought for me several years ago. It has been a tremendous help in getting me directly to my destinations without getting lost! My schedule normally is pretty tight!

I have become accustomed to spending so much hurried time in my car. I believe I actually do it unconsciously! Sometimes I get in the car and before I realize it I am at my destination. Of course thats after I log my odometer reading, check my calendar and enter my destination in to the GPS. I usually do that while in my driveway.

Several months ago, back in early May, I noticed something awesome while in my driveway. I was late one morning and really felt rushed. I backed out of the driveway like I always do but this time I backed in to the turn around space and then pulled forward toward the street. Just as I got midway the driveway, my phone started to ring. I put the car in park and took the call. It was a client calling to say theyd be late for our appointment that morning. I was relieved. I hung up and decided to run back in the house for something Id left since I had a few extra minutes.

When I got out of the car I ran through the garage in to the house. I came out and walked slowly back to the car quite happy about the extra time I had to get to my appointment. As I walked down my driveway back to the car, I heard a bird over head and I looked up. As I looked down, I stopped dead in my tracks! I looked to my right and then my left and then back and forth up and down my street. It was beautiful! My tree-lined street was completely filled with a variety of trees that had obviously bloomed without the benefit of me noticing. Trees as far as I could see on both sides of the street with varying degrees of pink, purple and also white blossoms!

I stared at my double block in amazement at the breathtaking view. I eventually got back in the car and sped away as I was again late for my appointment that I had gotten a reprieve from just 15 minutes earlier!

On the drive home that evening I recalled the wonderful view Id seen while in my driveway that morning and that awaited me upon my return! I realized trees like those only bloom in the spring!
