Bursts of brilliant color, new life abound, the frozen hand of winter opens its fingers and beauty emerges.
Ladybugs rest on the shasta daisies, and bumble bees startle the grasshoppers as they feast on fresh blooms.
The blue sky, the orange sun, and the green grass set the backdrop.
With each new flower I paint God's canvas, and His wonderous creatures make the scene.
The soil is like a mother, the seeds, her children. I nurture them and watch them grow. Not one petal do I take for granted.
The sky may darken, and the thunder may rumble, but the roots have grown strong and cannot be shaken.
The rain becomes a welcome friend, quenching a thirst and drawing arched prisms through the clouds.
As I stroll around this little piece of earth I've been given, with my achy back and bad knee causing a bit of a limp, I laugh. As my gardens have matured, so have I.
My trusty wheelbarrow sits propped up after another hard labor. The countless loads of mulch laying over the beds, like a sturdy quilt "sewn" with love.
A mourning dove flys past, then a second, and a third. I am reminded of the trinity, watching over me, and all I have been blessed with.
Neighbors and passers by look on in awe at the picture I've created. I could not disappoint.
In summer days I shine most bright, because He lets me.
A green thumb, or a beacon?
Even with the night, no darkness truly falls.
By the moon the crickets hum, and the fireflys dance. But watch out for the skeeters.
A deep dish cherry pie, a cold glass of sweet tea, and my favorite chair on the front porch. These simple things make it all complete. These simple things, I am grateful for.
Gifts given, and given back.
This is my summer.
