TITLE: Filled with His Spirit
By Florien Deysel

Shortly after I gave my life, my everything to Jesus, I wanted to be filled with the Holy Spirit as in Acts 2. I wanted serve God in spirit and in truth. I had a desire to be like all the other Christians in church.
Boy, did I need to learn a few hard lessons first. I tried changing so much that I wanted to be like my father-in-law; soon I realized that I am not my father-in-law and I will never be like him. He is loving, kind, gentle and just perfect in every way. I am not perfect at all. Then I wanted to be like my sister-in-law, but she was perfect too, she just new what to do, and when to do it. Then I wanted to be like the pastor. Again I realized I canít be like him. I am me. I have to be me, but how can I be me, the sinner, and still serve God like the other Christians?
As time went by I and I have learned to know the other people in church I learned that they were people, they made mistakes and none of them were perfect at all. They were human, just like me. Then I thought how can humans serve a perfect God?
Eventually the day came that I was filled with the Holy Spirit. WOW! What an experience. I felt wonderful, as if I am this perfect human being and I canít do anything wrong. Then reality sets in again and I made mistakes, took the wrong decisions and I was still me, my life was not perfect at all.
I felt like such a failure and nearly gave up because of it. What is wrong with me? I am a spirit filled child of God and just look at my life! I thought that I was false, a liar.
As time went by I learned quite a lot. I learned that Paul said the things I want to do, I do not, and the things I donít want to do, I do them. (Free translation.) Nobody is perfect. I am just like anybody else in church, I am human.
God filled me with His Holy Spirit. Not because He had to, no because He loved me and wanted to teach me. I am a Spirit filled child of God by His Grace.
The Holy Spirit is my guide, my teacher, my helper. Through the Spirit of God I learn and understand the Word of God better. Now I am learning to be a better person and to overcome the past and rejoice in the Love of God. I appreciate the fact that I am me and now I can be the best me, not because I am perfect but because of Gods grace. I am filled with the Spirit of God and now I know that I have a loving Father who cares about me. Everyday is a new day, a day in which I learn.
To be filled with the Holy Spirit also means to be teachable. The Holy Spirit teaches us constantly, without rest He is reminding us of the love of God for us and to obey the Word of God. The Holy Spirit is also our comforter. He is always there when we need Him, ready, willing and able to comfort us and to lay us down on green pastures where we can rest in God.
What a privilege to have the Spirit of God in us.

Were you writing this to me? It felt like it! ;) Such a gentle reminder that some, including myself, need every once in a while. Sometimes I feel like such a failure, then remember the grace of God. You summed it up with:

"I appreciate the fact that I am me and now I can be the best me, not because I am perfect but because of Gods grace."

The only thing I would suggest is double breaks between paragraphs to make the reading a little easier.

Well done.
