My Grandmother’s Legacy
We walked amidst a garden
That was overgrown with weeds
Thistles, thorns and briars
That was all that I could see
But then I turned and saw her smile
And with her firm but gentle style
She pulled the weeds, and made a pile
She worked so tenderly
Suddenly I realized, just what her eyes had seen
For a single rose was blooming there in the midst of the debris
And though her hands were bloody, from the pricking of the thorns
She only saw the beauty that others had ignored.
We walked amidst the city
That was filled with filth and noise
Sirens, crowds and traffic
Blaring horns and screaming boys
But then she stopped there on the spot
She heard something that I had not
She smiled and listened, deep in thought
Her heart was overjoyed
Suddenly I recognized, just what her ears had heard
For there, amidst the chaos sang one small and cheerful bird
And though the world rushed by her, with a loud and empty roar
She softly hummed the music that others had ignored
We walked amidst the shadows
As her day came to an end
Her step had never faltered
As she turned the final bend
She modeled grace and confidence
Her life reflected excellence
The essence of her influence
And legacy won’t end
Now she walks amidst the Garden as she holds her Savior’s Hand
And listens to the singing of Heaven’s Worship Band
She knew that death was not the end, that there was so much more
Because she knew the Savior’s Love, that others had ignored
