I'm amazed as I watch people scurry from place to place along our city's streets. Life seems constant, always on the go, never ending. Not only on our streets have I noticed this but in our churches. People arrive and it's as if the seat they're sitting on is getting hotter and hotter by the second and they scurry to pass information on to each other, to console with one another, or simply to greet one another. We fill our lives up with busyness in the highest degree. We like to be busy; we enjoy the thrill of running from place to place to place. We're so busy that we fail to hear the children shouting in our ears, we're so focussed that we can't see the man on the street that’s lost everything that he has. Spending time with our Lord isn't all about going to a cosy place to escape from the busyness, although I’m not ruling out this as a most valuable source of re-cooping energy. True retreat, true connection is a moment by moment decision to take some time out with our loving heavenly Father. How amazing our world could be if we stopped in the middle of the street to take time to see those who are hurting and are lost. What a changed place our city would be if we sat down in the train station to speak to those that are homeless or dependent on their addictions to get them through every day. Moment by moment retreat with our Lord Jesus - what an amazing prospect for the Christian church.
