Sun and Cave
Cave, called out Sun
Come up from under the earth
So dreary, damp and gloomy
Come and see my light
I do not understand, said Cave.
What light is
Such a thing I have not seen
What is the significance of your words
Cave, I would not endanger you
All this beauty brings such delight
To impart its radiance with you
Would bring joy to each of us
Sun, I have joy I love my home,
Beneath the earth I am quite content
What better life could there be
Darkness is all I have ever known
O Cave, no need to give up your home
Just a visit for a day is my request
Permit me to disclose that which
Until now you have not known.
Then you must come and see my darkness
There are beauties here to be seen
Streaks of gold and silver
Lining glistening walls of rock
Then one day Cave said,
I shall come up there Sun
In the morning to see
This sight I do not grasp
When morning came
Cave went above the earth
To visit Sun as he said
Instantly Cave recognized light
Sun was a satisfied guide
Sun, said Cave, it is time for me to go
Will you visit my domain now
Or must I wait
Cave, I will come with you now
To see that which I have never seen
Cave descended back beneath the earth
Sun followed
Sun, said Cave
See my darkness and all its beauty
Sun was confused
I see all the beauty, still
I do not understand darkness
As Cave looked around He understood
He now saw gold and silver lined walls
In a different light
