The cool darkness enveloped me as I waited my destiny. Many years have past by since I began my long and difficult journey. My journey started long ago near the top of one of the great mountains. One of my first real memory was a the great earthquake that started it all.
The quake that rocked my home started a landslide. Caught up in the slide my family and I were literal forced from our place of comfort down to the valley below. The trip down the mountain was horrific. At the peak of the slide I was dropped, twisted, crushed, and pulled in every direction, it seemed like it would never be over. Coming to rest in the valley I remember thinking that it would have been better if I had not made it. Broken and lost I Begin to search for my family. Some of my family were lost or trapped somewhere between the peak above and the valley I now found myself in. Most I would never see or here from again.
Bruised, jagged, and broken I gathered up what was left of my life and tried to start over. Gone was the majestic home of my past. The dreams of my past seemed to be impossible now. Just dreams that would never happen. I was just a shadow of what I once was.
Over time the wounds that I thought would never heal did. Although I will never be the same I started to move on. It was only after I accepted my new life I was able to dream again. At first my dreams were of my lost family and home that were never to be, but soon I my life started taking on meaning. Than one time I had a dream where I saw myself flying through the air with a propose. I knew that I had a great destiny I just had to wait.
Year after year people would come and go through my valley however no one wanted to stay. I stayed because I just knew that some day I would live my dreams. Floods came and then drought, wars and peace, but I had a dream so I stayed.
Years passed then one day during a time of war I felt it. I felt a small hand close around me. The fingers of this hand were smooth, soft, but sure. These small sure hands washed me clean and gentility brushed away the sand that had collected on my now smooth body. Quietly these hands walked my away from the home that I now loved.
After years of waiting I was going to be used. I waited in shear excitement then it happened. The small hand found me and I was going around and around. I could feel the wind all around me it seemed to push me harder. Then all at once I was free I was flying through the air just like in my dream. The sunshine and light now enveloped me, free at last! My aim was true I found my mark. Now at rest I knew that I had completed my destiny. The quake, the loss of all I knew, the grinding, breaking, and all the years of going unnoticed were over at last.
Who am I? I am but one of five smooth stones found in a valley stream by a young shepherd boy named David.
