For great darkness has hidden each form and each face.
This darkness is endless; no light can I see
I don’t understand; where on earth can I be?
Don’t despair, wandring pilgrim. This place is our home
Our land’s full of darkness wherever we roam
It ever surrounds us; we can’t see the light
And this is our destiny; try as we might
But come and I’ll show you a beautiful Light
It breaks through the darkness and shines through the night.
It illumines our hearts and it shows us the Way.
And all we need do is accept It, each day.
But how can this be, in this place that’s so dark?
Where does It come from? From whence does It spark?
I’ve heard of this Light, but how can It exist?
With so many in darkness; what clue have they missed?
I know not. But look! See that Light, in the sky?
Come with me to see this; come, let us draw nigh.
For into our darkness comes healing and grace:
It casts Its bold Glory o’er every man’s face.
Kind sir, I’m intrigued by this marvelous Light.
For I don’t want to travel in this endless night
Must I give of my gold or my land, for this prize?
Please tell me; this darkness seems harsh, to my eyes.
All you must do is to ask for the Light
For our Great Creator has heard of our plight
And all who would seek It can gain It, for free
So this Light can be yours, if you ask It to be.
I cannot believe this; it seems like a trick.
There must be another way that I could pick.
Can’t I find other options or seek my own way?
It seems strange to trust The Unknown, every day.
You may try as you might; you will find only doom.
For no light within you can outshine this gloom
It cripples your soul and it brings only sadness
While trusting the Light surely leads you to gladness.
This all seems so strange - but I cannot embrace it
I am wise and I’m strong; I’m sure I can face it.
I’ll set out on my own, now, but maybe some day
If I run out of options, I’ll return to this Way.
Goodbye, wand’ring pilgrim. I bid you farewell
But please don’t lose sight of the story I tell
My prayers will be with you; that one day you’ll see
That to trust in His Light is what will make you free.
