TITLE: They Were Naked Before
By ThresiaPaulose varghese

Before it happened they were naked. But they were not at all aware that they were naked. They were not ashamed to be naked.

Extremely Happy They Were

They were immensely happy. They lacked nothing. They never experienced any kind of pain or suffering. Everything they ate was incomparably sweet. Even God walked and talked with them often. They shared everything with God. Just imagine their happy life.

A Jolly Life

They walked freely in the breeze. They saw and enjoyed everything. Their eyes feasted on the beautiful sights of nature. They heard God speak and enjoyed the sweet melodies of heaven. They tasted everything most delicious. They never felt hunger. They never felt anything defective in their senses. The place they were on this earth was actually heaven.

But What Happened?

Their situation became completely changed after ‘that’ incident. Is it so serious? Their status was just the opposite of what they had been before.

After all What Happened?

It is nothing so serious. It is just an eating affair. They ate a fruit that they should not have eaten. It is the woman who first ate. Actually she was not so aware because she had not been warned directly. The man with her told that they were not supposed to eat ‘that’ fruit because he had been warned , “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but of the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.” How can she know something good and bad unless she tied on it. Moreover, she ‘saw it was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and the tree was to be desired to make one wise.’ Hence she just had a try on it! She ate and she gave some to the man with her also. He also never dared to stop her and readily accepted her offer. It was then they heard the thundering sound of God.

They Dressed Themselves After ‘That’

After ‘that’ incident they realized that they were naked and they were in a hurry to dress themselves. Shame and fear enveloped them. They reached for some leaves to make dresses for them. Their fearlessness disappeared and they wanted to hide themselves somewhere.

There were some changes in their body. Their hearts thudded heavily. Is it fear? Their legs got torn and got bleeding in thistles in their rush to hide themselves in the thorny bush. Is it pain? Their eyes were struggling to open. Is it the conflict between the body and mind? They craved for something which they could not realize. Is it the Godly experience that somehow they had lost?

After ‘That’ Everything Changed

They were driven out of that beautiful garden. They felt very hungry. Each and every inch of their body experienced some kind of pain. God caught them red-handed immediately after ‘that’ incident. They felt that they had lost everything.

Before and After

This is not an old incident of the past. Is happening everyday in our life. God has left us free to decide our own fate by our own actions of choosing ‘ either this or that’. God has given us enough enlightenment in our conscience to know what can follow after our decision. But normally we are lead by our tempting senses and decide against our own good.

We repeat the same scene of Eden Garden ’before and after’.
