Topic: Passport (07/25/05)

TITLE: Passport Power
By M'Kayla Kelly

Passport Power

What IS that? I no sooner get brave enough to start writing again and here comes this crazy topic “passport”. I am so not amused. The resident and long time unemployed editor, sometimes saboteur, in my mind immediately rises to the occasion. Taking voice, you do not know about this. You cannot possibly write about something that you obviously know nothing about. Better off to go watch Lifetime Television for Women and wait for another topic next week.

Oh, but there’s just that little thing called COMMITMENT.

But, still. Have I ever seen a passport? I don’t travel. I’ve never left this country except for that long ago trip to Tijuana and that other place further south called Husongs…but we won’t go there today. In fact, we won’t go there again – ever.

So, boring person that I am, I haven’t a clue on what this passport thing is. My only hope is in the wisdom of Mr. Noah and his giant red book, yes, the dreaded dictionary. Immediately, memories of my children while still in school flood my mind…no Mom, I don’t need to look it up, just tell me…..you can tell me what this word means. Ugh! Mom, how can I look it up if I can’t spell it? They had a point.

There is something about that old book and all of its words, their origins, some words whose meanings shift with the passing of time. Ah, just to breathe…in…that smell of layered dust on old yellowing paper…age, wisdom… a part of long ago…

Thankfully, I can spell passport. Thankfully, I still have enough strength in my wrists to lift this compilation of ink and paper. Yeah, yeah, I know I can have my answers in just a few seconds through the wonder of the internet. What fun is in that? The big experience is in the smell of that old dictionary. Besides, the only aroma I’ll experience through use of the internet is the one of fuzzy coffee coming from that forgotten cup on my desk. Oh, so that’s where I left it.

It truly amazes me how God can show up in the funniest of places. Being God, He can do just about anything He wants. He can just jump in anywhere. You thought I was going to make some weird reference to that cup of fuzzy coffee, didn’t you? No, but He did give me some spiritual thinking in the word “passport”.

He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. Colossians 1:17 niv

Oh, should I? I know, I know, definitions are kinda boring, so let’s just breathe in….An official document issued by the government of a country to a citizen that identifies the bearer and gives permission to travel to and from that country; official power to do something. Okay, breathe out…now… see? It’s an experience!

Isn’t this description a lot like salvation? I bear the name of the Ruler of Heaven and Earth, and am known throughout the Kingdom as a child of the Most High God. He gives me permission to access His mighty presence through prayer and worship. This is the spiritual trip to the Throne Room boys and girls! Kick it! I can travel without physically leaving the place in which I am standing (or sitting in my lazier moments).

Acting on His authority and in the anointing of His power, I call the things that are not as though they are. Jesus spoke to His disciples, “…greater works than these he (the believer) will do because I go to My Father.” John 14:12b nkjv

One day I will leave this world to live in the New City, the New Jerusalem! A perfect world without pain or sorrow or tears because my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life!

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. Luke 10:19-20 nkjv.

Now, that’s passport power!
