“Stella! Are you still awake?” Samuel shouted at his wife.

Immediately the wall clock chimed twelve as if patting on his back. It was a midnight mixed with moments of melancholy, melody and mundane domestic chores. Queen darkness having defeated the king of daylight had begun her reign. One of her cohorts, silence became very active. Spreading out her hands, she swiftly sailed at an unfathomable speed and spelt “sleep” on all the souls laying her hands upon them. As if touched by a magic wand, most of the ordinary people fell asleep while a few extra-ordinary ones with compelling reasons of positive or negative goals resisted her dominion.

When Samuel received no response, he rephrased his question adding a greater proportion of his anger to it. “Are you still scribbling something there?”

There was no answer.

Samuel’s anger shot up like a mercury line indicating a high temperature. He kicked everything on his way and slammed the door behind him. One should remember that his anger unlike others arose out of affection for his wife. His heart beat, “My Stella should always remain healthy”. When he looked at his wife, his anger dropped down as if a thermometer had touched ice. For a moment he stood like a statue and then left the room an enlightened man.

In the beginning, Stella was a shy person while her husband Samuel was a bold evangelist, a man after God’s own heart. She remained satisfied with cooking delicious food for her husband, taking care of the affairs at home and shut herself inside a shell like a snail thinking, ‘this is enough’. Yet, she had the habit of praising and thanking God with a heart of gratitude for all favours received. Outside is what man looks at but God sees inside out. So it was in Stella’s case as with any other.

A certain day dawned which is still evergreen in her memory. On that particular day about two hundred people were gathered to listen to a certain servant of God from Australia. Being a renowned personality, Samuel sat on the dais but his wife Stella was seated at the rear end of the auditorium where none could spot her.

The guest speaker from Australia pointing his hand said, “I see the vision of a woman with a pen in her hand. Someone here in this gathering will arise and shine for God as a writer. Please come forward and magnify the name of the Lord.”

Stella, on the other hand thought it was meant for someone else and kept quiet. Samuel wondered, “Who could be that woman who was blessed by the Lord be?”

No one came forward. Can the word of God be false? Never! Seeing no sign of any soul coming forward, the servant of God came straight to the place where Stella was sitting. He placed his hands upon her head and boldly pronounced God’s call in her life. Stella stood shivering under the anointing of the Holy Spirit while Samuel was stunned at seeing such a spectacle.

Ever since Stella had received a call in her life through this prophecy she sincerely obeyed the voice of God sacrificing even her sleep. Her joy knew no bounds when her first book, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” for children and young people was published. This was followed by several other books. One book named “Priceless Pearl” received an award. God has enabled her to author more than eleven books. Who can mock a humble beginning when God has already shown the end? The end is but the beginning of reaching out to more and more precious and perishing souls. Thus once the grace of God comes upon a person it ignites and the fire keeps burning, spreading out to ignite other souls with the word from God (Hebrews 4:12)

Now the question is this. What do you think made Samuel who roared like a lion turn into turn into a lamb that day?

Hardly had Samuel’s foot halted, that his eyes found Stella in a praying posture conversing with God that midnight with a lot of paper spread out before her. Immediately Samuel remembered this verse: “Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would increase abundantly” (Job 8:7).

Samuel is now not there to question, “Stella! Are you still scribbling something there?” but Stella is still awake conversing with the one who is the beginning and the end (Revelation 1:8)

A good story depicting the power of answering and being faithful to the call on one's life and illustrating as well how humbling (and changing) it can be to see someone we love in God's peace and grace.
