Without another word or even an "upsy-daisy" the doctor picked me UP by my feet, held me upside DOWN, gave me a sharp swat on my backside....then turning to the student nurse observing her first delivery scene and looking pale and aghast at what had just transpired, he said: "She wasn't breathing, so I spank her to get her to gasp or cry out and take in air. Now she's breathing on her own, as you can see."
The student nurse looked relieved, I was breathing and planet Earth just added ONE more to their total population. (I was present - but due to lack of maturity it's strictly heresay).
Today, twenty-seven thousand days and nights later, (give or take a few) I am definitely mature enough to know the facts of life. Therefore, I have my own answer to why I couldn't breathe on Day One. "Exhausted."
Take an adult, for instance, if they had struggled for hours to navigate through a pitch black, narrow canal by pushing, pulling, shoving and laboring through it to get to the light at the end of the tunnel, wouldn't they be dog tired? So imagine a little six pound baby making his or her first trip under the SAME circumstances? Plus, AFTER being penned UP in solitary confinement for months on end? No doubt about it, my diagnosis would have been..."Complete Exhaustion!"
Okay, so after twenty-seven thousand days later (give or take), I'm here to tell you the doctor's tactic worked. So I got a spanking, I cried and I gasped for air on Day One. So what else is new? I got many spankings from my parents that I deserved, I've cried buckets of tears, and I've gasped at all the goof-UPS I've made and all the low DOWN things I've done.
Life has been up and down for 27,000 days and nights! (I repeat, Give or take a few.) I have lived UPtown, been UPbeat and an UPstanding citizen, but then again I've lived DOWNtown, been DOWNtrodden and DOWN and out. You name it, I've seen it and lived it. And I'm not just talking childhood Ups and Downs of Merry-Go-Rounds, teeter-totters, Yo-Yo's or Jumping Ropes either... I'm talking mistakes, wrong turns, detours, disappointments, rejections and oceans of tears.
But here's what Life is all about - the genuine meaning of UP and DOWN that makes life worthwhile, and gives each Earthling blessed hope!
"Mercy and Truth are met together,
Righteousness and Peace have kissed each other.
Truth shall spring UP out of the earth
And Righteousness shall look DOWN from heaven."
This beautiful poetic "Plan of Salvation" is written in black and white in Psalms 85: 10, 11. (KJV)
In a nutshell and/or layman's terms. God the Father and God the Son met together long ago (to make plans on how to save Man from eternal death)
The two sealed this great Plan of Salvation with a handshake (or in the olden days, it was sealed with a kiss)
The Plan: They decided that Jesus would come down to Earth to die for Man and spring UP from His grave...giving give Man eternal life.
Meanwhile God the Father would look DOWN from heaven and give His son the power to overcome.
This is each Earthing's hope! We can go UP to Heaven, because He came DOWN to earth.
Isn't that the Best "UP and DOWN" you have ever heard of or can imagine?
Won't the whole world say "Amen" to that?
"Amen"
