The Mountain or the Valley?

People often say,
About the Christian way,
“It's a 'mountain-top journey'”
Or an “'in the valley' day”

We're either up or we're down,
A smile or a frown,
Yet we too often forget,
Whose the One sticking around.

The so-called measure of our relationship,
With the One whose by our side,
Is merely how we feel,
Which is not why Jesus died.

You mean to tell me,
My Lord suffered on a tree,
To give me eternal life,
But I can't show my glee?

It's not the 'mountain' high,
Or an 'in the valley' low,
It matters whose your Companion and Guide,
To show you where to go.

If this is the case,
Then what is wrong with the many Christians,
Who look sad in the face?

Instead of looking left or right,
At the awful word around,
Look up to Jesus,
In Whose grace we abound.

You've expressed a common experience in this sweet poem!

Try to even out the meter--a consistent pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables--and keep the same rhyme scheme throughout, to make your poem flow more smoothly.

Your sweet spirit is very evident in this poem.

Too often we focus on the ups and downs instead of our Guide. Thanks for that reminder.
