They donít know me
Not really
Very scarcely
For when they think of me
They think of poverty
Of sickness and of slavery

But thatís not me
Thatís hardly who I am
Iím much more than that
In spite of my struggles, my pains, my sufferings
Iím untouchable, Iím strong,
Iím unrelenting.

But thatís not all
Iíve got a joy
That springs not
From the abundance of my wealth
But from the sufferings I overcame

I have a love
Not gotten from the goodness
Shed upon me
But on the sufferings I endured

For in spite of my pain
God gave me the strength to endure
Despite my afflictions
He gave me reasons to smile again

So when you think of Africa,
Donít think of my pain
But of my victory

When you think of Africa
Donít think of the poverty
But of my affluent and unbroken spirit

For despite the war for my soul
I came out victorious
Despite the struggle for my life
I came out unscathed

I am untouchable I am victorious!
I am and always will be
AFRICA!

Notes: Pleasant, that is "Africa" Africa means "pleasant"

A nice poem which helps restore the balance of how the rest of the world sees Africa.

I didn't realize the MC was Africa at first. That was a pleasant surprise. I really enjoyed this poem. Thank you.

Wow! I love this poem and I don't say that about poems very often, trust me:) It's written very well and informative. I think you need a stronger title to go with such a strong piece. How about, well, it's just a thought - Pleasant? Keep on writing!

Nice poem, no that not who she is. Tell it to the world.
