I am a country that is landlocked,
And on the western side.
My populations over thirteen million,
In the dessert they can hide.
I am almost twice the size of Texas,
And have no border by the sea.
There are seven countries all around me,
From Chad over too Mali.
My transportation is very primitive,
Most roads will not be paved.
I have an international airport,
From which many visitors have waved.
I hold the largest uranium deposits,
But the world demand is low.
I also have crops and livestock,
Which rate my economy very slow.
In the year two thousand,
I qualified for debt relief.
My religion is mostly Muslim,
With small Animist and Christian belief.
I export cowpeas and onions,
Garlic, peppers, potatoes, and wheat.
Over 80% of my country is dessert,
So I have more than my share of heat.
So if you come and visit me,
It would be good to know my name.
If by now you haven’t guessed it,
A world map you should proclaim.
Please come for our awesome music,
Then read the writings of Andree Clair.
Whose writings included children’s books,
Then you’ll feel like you’ve been there.
My Name Is Niger.
