At first impression Europe looks like a continent that is focused on Christ. The Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches pervade the landscape. Sadly though,"Less than two percent of the peoples in Europe actively follow Christ" (http://www.gemission.org/Why/statistics.asp)Why is this? Several factors seem to delay the Gospel. Evangelism in these countries from its own churches are almost non-existent. Importance has been placed more in under developed areas of the world. Sometimes Europe gets left out of the mix."While the Gospel has advanced in most countries during the past 250 years, in Europe it has declined."(http://www.gemission.org/Why/statistics.asp)More and more organizations are moving away from Europe and placing more of an emphasis on third world. Christians have been called to evangelize the earth. But it seems more important to us to minister to others in need than to witness to those who only need Jesus. It is easier to witness to someone when you are also feeding them. And we tend to do things that are easier. Europe is the center of the world for many things including fashion, soccer, and now economics. Missions organizations should beef up their work in Europe so that it can branch out into the world.
