While on a recent get away to Argentina and Brazil,
We saw great sites of mountain heights and quickly got our fill.
We backpacked up those narrow trails with a guide who knew the way.
He seemed to know just where to go, but a price we’d have to pay.
The meal we had the night before had tasted very great.
But far into this mountain pass as time was getting late.
We thought for sure we had the flu with stomach pain galore.
Then when the sun set on the peak our mouths began to pour.
To make it back to our hotel would not happen on this night.
We hunkered down on cold hard ground while quickly loosing light.
We sat together with consoling words while our guide was fast asleep.
With faces sad and stomachs bad we longed now for a Jeep.
The night was long and winds were strong as we held each other close.
We wished that we had brought some medicine, in a very heavy dose.
We toughed it out and did not pout as the morning sun would rise.
But as we tramped around the camp, fear would fill our eyes.
Our guide was gone with packs and food and we were all alone.
We looked around both up and down, and yelled with highest tone.
Some time would pass as well as gas and much better we would feel.
We started down the trail we found as our sunburned skin would peel.
We made it back to our hotel and were not much worse for wear.
Together we would thank the Lord for our lives that He did spare.
The memory that we made this trip of climbing up the mount.
Would on our list of memories almost have the highest count.
So rarely have we ever traveled outside the U. S. A.
For some advice to give to others, this is what we have to say.
I know it’s rude to not eat the food that you are served at meals.
So check the source of every course, and make sure that there are seals.
And if you choose to backpack trails, with the sites you want to see.
Please place a tether on your guide so that he cannot be free.
To slip away after the price you pay for leadership and food.
It’s the safest way to save the day, and don’t worry about being rude.
