Marc, our mailman, sauntered up our stone walkway with an air of mystery surrounding him. I was about to tell him such when he handed me a letter, smiled and turned on his heals.
Looking down, I realized it was a personal letter addressed to me. I also noted there was no return address written on the outside. Confused, I hesitated a mere moment before excitement took root goading me to rip it open.
The letter slipped from my hands as tears stung my bright green eyes with the realization of the words written in all black caps. Words, which would forever change the rest of my life. Words, which exposed nineteen years of lies. Words, written with the best of intentions and swimming with love.
I was betrothed to an Aussie and we were to be married in two years time. However, Michael intended to marry for love even if it were to go against our parents’ desire. He proposed we become pen pals and when the time was right we’d meet in person. He proposed we not tell our parents. Not that he wanted to deceive them but in order for us not to become influenced.
Excitement welled up from deep within coupled with the hurt of not being told by my parents. I pushed the hurt aside, laid my grief at my Lord’s feet and put pen to paper.
For the next year Michael and I revealed ourselves to one another on paper. We talked of our hopes, dreams, and how we saw our futures. We were able to be completely honest with one another after all we had nothing to lose.
Almost a year to the date we met.
We met at Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire, UK. Where amazing scenery and wildlife could be seen as we walked around the 4 mile man-made lake and took in the smell of fresh springtime buds of the lime trees. It wasn’t love at first sight after all the first thing I noticed was how big Michael’s ears and nose were and I prayed right then and there our children wouldn’t inherit them. That’s when I realized how far we’d come and for the first time I could see we wouldn’t have to go against our parents wishes.
We told them just six short weeks later. They were shocked; all four of them. Mine more so then his, as they had yet to tell me. I later found out this was due to my mother praying I would find love on my own so they’d be able to renege on their agreement.
We became man and wife at the same park in the Chapel of St. Mary the Virgin, two years from the day I received my first love letter from Michael. Once again tears threatened to slip from my eyes as I recalled his words.
Words, written neatly in all caps.
“For God so loved the world He sent His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV - John 3:16)
IT IS BECAUSE OF HIS LOVE, I PLEDGE TO YOU TO NEVER HURT OR FORSAKE YOU BUT TO MARRY ONLY FOR LOVE AND NOT LEGALISAM. I LOVE YOU THAT MUCH ALREADY.

Some of the timeline and the details seemed a bit muddled to me--I'm especially not clear on the 19 years of lies and where they fit in to the romance.
Your narrator found a wonderful man!
This does have the makings of a beautiful romance.
I would like more history and details. :)
Watch the spelling and grammar. (wink)
