The day that we’ve awaited,
At last, it has arrived,
The gifts are all in order,
And, yes, we have survived.

The children’s faces seem to glow,
They are full of anticipation;
But somehow we’ve lost the view,
The reason for the celebration!

Dear God, as you look down
Upon this gathering here,
Help us to joyfully remember,
God’s Son, that is so dear!

May the most important part
Of this very special day,
Penetrate deep in our hearts,
Hold over us full sway.

May Christmas forever
Be more than material joy.
May our love be for others,
And God’s Holy, Baby Boy!

Fill our hearts to the brim
With a portion of God’s love,
Keep our eyes focused
Upon our Savior, up above.

Give us a deeper joy
And a much better way
To express our love for God,
More clearly in this day!

And when this day is over,
Thoughts of thanks in our head,
May we rest in your blessings
As we lie upon our bed.

A prayer that we should all take to heart this Christmas season.

When writing short poetry, make your really stand out by avoiding rhyming pairs like boy/joy and love/above. Consider tweaking your meter a bit to make it more consistent.

This would be wonderful as a bookmark or a bulletin insert...short and sweet.
