And (Mary) gave birth to her first born son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:4,7

Lord, we're to be a Bethlehem - but one that has room for You at the Inn. We're to give You a dwelling in our heart. We're to nurture and care for our relationship with You. We're to guard carefully the Savior entrusted to us. We're to grow each day to be more like You. We're to love You with all our hearts.

When we sin it places a layer between You and us in our 'home'. Thank You for grace and forgiveness. Thank You for pouring Yourself out on the cross so that You could be at home in our hearts. We don't want anything between us and our Savior.

When others sin against us the anger keeps our hearts from being as warm and welcoming as we should be. Your grace is not only given from You to us but is to be given between each other. And the shorter time we wait to forgive the sooner our hearts become soft again. We shouldn't let a day go by without forgiving those we're a little miffed with or those who have caused great harm in our lives. Forgiveness is a daily, weekly, monthly process that won't end this side of heaven. It's a difficult road, forgiveness, but it's a beautiful picture of what He did for us.

Our hearts long for Your light and Your gentleness in our home. We have a place in us that isn't at peace without You. We have a desperate need for a Savior no matter how many days we have known You. Our hearts even cry out for You to come and sit a while with us so we can be tender like You. We also have a desperate need to give a Savior to those we love. You said those words in Matthew 18:5, "And whoever receives one such little child in My Name receives Me." You wanted us to receive each other because You were refused when You were born. Others need a heart in us where their souls can rest for a while also.

May we show to people the grace You've shown us. Please Lord, let Your love flow through our lives. Come and leave Your peace with us so that our hearts will not be troubled. Give us joy for this holiday season. Don't just come for a vacation. May our hearts be the home You come to and remain in this Christmas.

"Come and make my heart Your home.
Come and be everything I am and all I know.
Search me through and through,
Till my heart becomes a home for You." (Unknown Author)
