Home for Christmas
Christmas. The holiday where we celebrate the birth of our Lord (although most of us donít live like He is Lord of our lives) and Savior (whether we like it or not Ė He is our only option for salvation) Jesus Christ. Generally we do it (the celebrating) by putting up tinsel and buying presents (often with money we donít have) and sitting on Santaís lap. Santaís got nothing to do with the real meaning of Christmas, but thatís the way most of our shopping-on-credit culture celebrates the holiday. The true celebration is of our graciousness to Christ for his sacrifice (his whole life was for us!) which gives us life.
Home. Itís not always where you hang your hat. Itís where you hang (or unhang Ö or let out Ö) your heart. Itís where you are with Ö the people that you love. Tradition says that youíre with the family where you grew up. Tradition Ė merely for the sake of tradition Ė is crap. Do NOT have turkey at Thanksgiving if you donít ENJOY turkey. If you enjoy turkey, fabulous. If you donítÖ start a new tradition. Serve tuna in your celebrations if thatís what makes you happy. Donít travel across the country (or even across a short state!) to be with family if you donít enjoy that. Find something (or someone) you do enjoy. Start a new tradition.
Go home for Christmas. But do not do it just because itís a tradition. Go home. Go to the people that you love. Donít just go to what tradition says is your home.
Iím forty and married less than a year still. I have a wife and two teenagers that Iíve known less than two years. My family is less than three hours away, and I love them, and we will visit. But my real Christmas is going to be here. Right here at home. In the arms of my new family. Weíre starting a new tradition.

Interesting thoughts- Using dialogue or even a particular incident would help to give your thoughts more life, so the reader can relate.
Keep writing.
