Santa Claus is coming to town…
He was an inconspicuous man this time of year,
Yet invaluable to everyone from blocks around.
He was the one they all wanted near.
But only for what he set upon the ground.
Naughty or nice…Christmas gifts at any price.
Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright…
Hours ago, it stopped working…so much for a flashlight!
It would be well passed nine before he made it home tonight.
He pulled his truck up slowly and parked just under the streetlight.
A man came running toward him, just ready for a fight.
All is calm, all is bright…but only if you do what’s right.
Peace on the earth, good will to men,
From heaven's all-gracious King…
A man hollered, “I waited all day for this to come in!”
He sighed and quietly set the packages in the den.
“Why weren’t you here yesterday!” screamed the woman.
He said “Happy Holidays,” but it held a sad sort of ring.
Good will to men?…the hurt of their words was brewing within.
With the kids jingle belling,
and everyone telling you, "Be of good cheer…"
He walked up the next drive listening to a pair of people yelling,
Fighting about the ice on the walk and who would do the shoveling.
Whoosh! he was down. Neither one of them had kept him from falling.
He sighed and set their package down, his twisted ankle already swelling.
“Are you OK?” or, “Be of good cheer”…was definitely something he didn’t hear.
It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year…
Quietly he sits on Christmas morn, thankful that it’s over for another year.
Remember Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day…
He forgives them for being angry when their Christmas gifts faced delay.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me…
He prays that someday they will know what Christmas truly means
…Especially if that causes him to bring less packages to put under their tree.
