The Christmas season is quicky approaching. Radio stations have started playing Christmas music and TV is showing commercials with Christmas thimes. All this is being done to get our minds set on Christmas gifts. We are flooded with ideas of what the perfect Christmas gift should be. Toys of all kinds for children. Jewerly with diamonds for women, and gadgits of all types for the men on our list.

The fact that money is tight for many people doesn't seem to matter. Just because your funds are low is no excuse not to go out and buy Christmas gifts for our families. Giving is what Christmas is all about. If you don't give you don't love.

How did we get to this place where the reason for the season is to spend, spend, spend? Remember when a Christmas gift was something you made for someone else? Or a family treasure was passed on to another family member?

I think that is what I am going to do this year. I'm going to make gifts for everyone on my list. As I work on each gift, I will spend that time praying for the person who will receive it. These will be gifts of prayer.

For my husband, son, son-in-laws, grandson, and grandson-in-law, I will knit a soft winter scarf. With each stitch I will ask God to bless them and keep them in His care.

My daughters and daughter-in-laws will get quilted table runners. Again, I will pray for God to pour out His blessing upon their homes. My granddaughter will get a set of chrochetted placemats covered with prayers for her happiness and pece in her new role as wife and mother.

Last but not least, I will create a stuffed animal for my first great granddaughter. My prayer for her is that she will grow up to be a good God loving woman like her mother and grandmother, and greatgrandmother.

Shop owners may call me cheap but years from now when I'm gone from this Earth, someone in my family will remember the year I gave each of them a gift of prayer. Maybe, by doing this I can honor the greatest gift I have ever received. The gift of the Christ child.
