Christmas Lights
Lights glistening. Cash registers ringing. Long lines in malls and markets! Yes, it’s that time of year again. It’s the season for Christmas, the greatest holiday of the entire year! All pronounced by the prelude of a most beautiful décor of crisp, clean, and colorful lights. Oh how beautiful are the lights that fill our homes, offices, markets and malls! Yet in today’s society these lights are strung so carefully with the subtle message that it’s spending time.
Now picture yourself on your way to the mall. Your heart is filled with anticipation. You scurry for a parking space close to the mall’s entrance. You park your car and exit as your heart is filled with anticipation for this gift-giving season. As you enter the mall, you dash into a most expensive store filled with Christmas décor and costly gifts. Each Christmas light is a subtle reminder that it’s time to spare no expense! There’s a soft sound of placid Christmas carols in the atmosphere. Suddenly you decide to dash towards the jewelry counter brightly lit with crisp clean white lights. You then decide that rare gems must be in your gift-giving ensemble. You say to the store’s assistant, “I’ll take this, that, and perhaps that as well.”
As your items are carefully packaged, you begin gazing at the Christmas lights in the store as you reason within yourself that you’ve made the right decision. After all, it’s Christmas and this is the season for giving! Yet somehow you know in your heart that you very well could have forgotten what the true meaning of Christmas is. Now if this sounds at all familiar, then please don’t be discouraged. We all, at some time or another, have been inundated with the material aspects of Christmas. Nonetheless, I would like to encourage you to remember the message of the following poem. Spread the word that, “Light came to darkness in the form of flesh and later hung on a tree that we might have a right to the tree of life.” Now that’s a good reason to hang Christmas lights!
Christmas Lights
Oh how bright and glistening they are
So beautiful are Christmas lights from afar
Yet they’re hung during the season that celebrates the most Beautiful One
His name is Jesus Christ God’s only son
Now the next time you hang Christmas Lights
That glistening so beautifully in the midst of the night
Just know that Light came to pierce through the darkness in your life
As only one can do and His name is Jesus Christ!
