The night before!

It was the night before ...It was the night before....the words kept buzzing around Marie’s head as she tried to go to sleep. What was the night before — to ten year old Marie it was just like any other night.
Both her parents were out, her baby brother was sound asleep, and the baby sitter was chatting to her boy friend on her cell phone.
The night before....the night before....the night before....the words danced around her brain. The night before what? Tomorrow was Christmas Day. They would all go to church, sing carols, come home and eat Christmas Dinner. There might be a few presents as well. Was the night before for that. The night before Christmas Day — the birthday of the baby Jesus.
For Mary and Joseph, tired from a long journey, the night before would be exciting as they thought about their coming baby.
Somewhere in the hills shepherds would be watching their sheep, quite unaware of what was going to happen. They did not know it was the night before anything different.
The night before! The night before Christmas. The world was sleeping. Only God was awake and about to invade His world.
Yes, at last Marie understood. The night before was like a secret soon to be revealed. Jesus was coming. Satisfied she turned over and was soon fast asleep.
