Jesus is the world’s worst camper! Nothing He does is ever that temporary. Camping is temporary, and one of the most important rules of camping is that you leave nothing behind when you leave; Jesus is pretty lousy at that. Take His trip to the well for example; you know the one where He met the Samaritan woman? He left a revival behind, the indelible mark of His Name. That stopover in Gethsemane? The trees still whisper His words of agony and surrender. What about the sermon by the lake? The one where a young boy gave up his lunch and become a part of miraculous history? It wasn’t just physical bread He dealt out but the bread of life, the crumbs are still there. On the mountain, where God expressed His delight in His son? Have you listened to the thunder lately? No, Jesus is definitely a bad camper. What about you Christian? How do you live your life? Jesus said they would know us by our love, and our love is only as strong as how much we live in Him and He in us. Jesus didn’t come to set up a camp in you; He came to make His home in you and invites you to make your home in Him. How sad then that so many Christians miss this, and instead of victorious living, are only camping.
