Rubber Band Logic

Stress is a stretch that will make you SNAP or make you strong. We respond physically, emotionally, and spiritually to the upsetting or changing events in our lives. No one of any age is immune to stress.

Stress comes from two main sources-from the outer world and from within oneself. Bad stress comes from events like an illness in the family, losing your job, a national tragedy, or an unhealthy relationship. Good stress comes from big events in life like getting married, receiving a promotion, having a baby or retirement.

We all respond to physical stress in the same way. We are designed with stress sensors which send messages to the body to prepare for fighting or fleeing the present danger. Chronic stress takes a great toll on the body, because it never goes away. As many as 90% of doctor visits involve stress related complaints.

Chronic feelings of hopelessness and unforgiveness can affect our immune system. So can unprocessed negative emotions like bitterness and resentment. Anxiety and fear can affect our digestive system..Denying or suppressing feelings let them ferment and oppress us.

A good starting point for dealing with stress is Phil 4:6,7. Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God's peace (shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation throught Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace) which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Amp) Spirits thriving on faith can push us into new growth and vision. We all thrive on love and nuturing. Feeling and releasing negative emotions can stretch us into new healthy places. Physical activities like healthy eating, rest, exercise and laughter can go a long way in reducing stress.

Consider the former stress busters. They are stretches that will make you strong like a circular strip of rubber holding things together.

I thought your rubber band served as a good metaphor and that your article was well spaced out for easy reading
