TITLE: It's Not All About You
By Vivian Grooms

Sometimes writing a story if you are in the wrong frame of mind tends to lead you down this winding road of me. Me and what I need to do, me and my beliefs, me and my moral standards, me and my infinite wisdom.

Concentration on what your writing is imperative so you arenít wandering off into the universe into the unknown. Sometimes your writing will start out on a certain road and then wind into this detour that you have taken and then you wake up and find you have no idea where you are and where you were going and unfortunately there is no road map.

Have you ever been listening to someoneís story and it was so important to them and somewhere you drifted off into your story not even remotely paying attention to what that person had to say. Unfortunately; life is like that sometimes we become so self involved we forget itís not all about us. Some people lead these extraordinary lives and when they speak they seem to take you on this adventure far away from your problems to a time and space you have never been and itís exciting. Some people live plain uneventful lives and what they say may not interest you one bite, but we as people owe it to ourselves and to them to listen. You one day will meet one of those people and truly know what Iím talking about.

The little old lady that still works as a cashier at the local store may not lead a life full of riches or romance, but if you listen carefully and watch her actions you may find this wonderful woman who truly loves people and inside herself she still thinks no one looks at her and sees just what a remarkable woman she is. She has given all of her live to her family and never once regretted buying used books instead of new ones, and never once regretted loving that one man her entire life, even though he strayed far away from her.

One day you may meet that young girl that is raising a young child alone and has no car, no friends, no money and no one to speak of that cares for her. Her dreams consist of dreaming of the characters from the show ďFriendsĒ, as since she has no friends of her own Ross and Rachel have become those friends in her reality. She wakes up each day putting on hand-me-down makeup from a garage sale, and wearing sample cologne ; but as she looks at her baby that she is raising without any child support she just smiles to herself thinking how blessed she truly is. Her main goal is to provide a better future for her child without asking for anything.

On your way to work you may pass that homeless man on the corner each day thinking why canít he go somewhere else. You have no idea his family gave up on him years ago and never dared to help him, they just removed him from their lives. Sometimes we forget, that for the drug user, the alcoholic, it can be a long haul and letís face it a lot of people do not want to be bothered for that long haul, so these people are left alone to either make it or fail all alone.

Yes that young girl, or young man that colors his hair black and has piercing studs all over their body, we may not understand or want to, but maybe just maybe if we concentrated more on what they are trying to tell us. Maybe they are trying to stand out as no one was ever there for them and they are trying to reach out to someone to say, ďSee Me, I am here, I am all alone and no one cares. I need Help. I need a Friend to hear my storyď.

Next time you really want to concentrate on something step outside of your safety zone. Step outside of what is familiar to you and may make you feel so uncomfortable that you do not want to be there. Concentrate on that kid that may be using drugs, or that man that may need a meal, or that lady who is planning on killing herself. Concentrate on what Christ may really be wanting you to see and maybe you can make a difference.
