Title: “Telephone to Jesus”
Almost all the people who have grown up in a local church are sure to remember the words of the chorus ‘Telephone to Jesus’ and probably thought the words very cute but not practical.
Little children are very literal in their faith and understanding and one of my greatest fans in a church I served in was a little three year old girl.
Her father was a paraplegic and had been thoroughly instructed in the truths of divine healing. This little bundle of joy would sit at her father’s feet as he was listening to me expound the scriptures.
You will remember that Jesus said, “Allow little children to come to me and forbid them not for this is the kingdom of heaven,” and “unless you receive the kingdom of heaven like a little child you won’t be able to enter it.
I often got phone calls from this little one saying, “Uncle Bill I’m very sick; will you pray for me?” There and then I would pray for her asking that she be healed. No matter how serious or even minor the sickness was, she was always instantly healed.
Her mother used to say, “It’s remarkable; I call the doctor but she insists on phoning you.” I told her not to be concerned because I was there to care for the lambs as well as the sheep.The family were in our church for about a year before they moved to a village nearby. I had already begun an outreach to that community and shortly before they moved Mother and daughter accompanied us so as to meet the people.
Driving out our conversation once again turned to the power of Christ to heal the sick. From the back seat of the car I heard the mother explaining that Jesus healed. A little voice said, “Uncle Bill is Jesus.” And I realised that her faith was what released the healing so readily in her life.
Needless to say I was very embarrassed but also thrilled at the power of her simple faith. We then carefully explained to her that every believing Christian had Jesus living in and through them and that through gifts healing given by the Holy Spirit, as He wills, sicknesses were overcome. We didn’t have to tell her some had more faith than others or answer all the arguments people put forward she already had experienced the Lord who healed all her diseases.
I am so glad that still today there are many believers, both young and old who use the telephone to request prayers for healing and many are still healed because the God who declares, “ I am the Lord that Heals you.” Whose word says, “He surely bore our sicknesses and carried our pains, and by His stripes we are healed.” Is the same yesterday, and today and forever.
So why not reach for the phone right now and call for the elders of the church requesting them to pray the prayer of faith. You will be healed.
