My family- O sanity where art thou?
People say that every family has skeletons in the closet-not in my family- we hang them on the front lawn!
As a kid we spent most Sunday afternoon dinners at the farm. This was the only day everyone put their guns away and portrayed the Christian attitude (love everybody) that they claimed to have the other 6 days a week. This day was the time and place for the aunts and uncles to refuel family arguments and justify their likes and dislikes. Now on the surface it all appeared to be a loving family however the under current could kill you quickly should you venture out to far.
Now as a kid I had no idea all of this was taking place, I truly thought that I was part of a loving family, it wasn’t until I was married with kids that I discovered the skeletons hanging from the trees were not forgotten Halloween decorations.
Over the years many things have happened and most of those who clung to the gossip have slowly passed away leaving skeletons for my generation to clean up. So lawn by lawn we have begun to take down the barriers that kept us from becoming whole. In this process I have had many failures and triumphs as have my siblings. It has truly been by the Grace of God that any of us came out alive and somewhat normal….well what is normal?
