To a place you once belonged
Nag you please to not forget
Yet can’t be found on maps or net
In our minds in retrospect
We wander forth to trail and trek
Elusive parts we thought were there
But often we’re not sure just where
The glow that settles on the past
Kindles light we dreamed would last
And still be waiting all intact
Just the way we left it packed
Back then...
In all the glory we believed
The best we left behind would breed
Into more truth than what was real
A universal heart’s appeal
To snuggle into childhood nest
Somewhere between the worst and best
And know for sure of safe and sound
From storm and threat and roaring hound
What dreamer hasn’t yearned to travel
Back to places to unravel
And begin again to make it right
A thing now seen with second sight
There may well be some sticks and mortar
For a few with lives of order
But some of us can only pray
What’s waiting at life’s ending day
Are mansions promised by our Lord
The homes we should be marching toward
Not pining for the ones on earth
Our eyes should be on full re-birth
And reaching for the keys we’re given
The ones that open doors in Heaven
Where all our loved ones gone before
Wait to greet us at the door
The best reunion that could be
Embracing friends and family
And Recognizing Home Sweet Home
Was never made of sticks or stone.
