As we step out of the present and into the past,
We invite you to come into our family's house.
Our rooms are quite small, but with lots of spaces to play,
And the peace you feel inside, will make you want to stay.
Here, you'll find our father, who loves to preach on sin,
And our mother, who has to teach, her children of ten.
If we're disobedient, Dr. Dogwood teaches what to expect.
That's why, you're sure to find, plenty of love and respect.
No television set, in our living room will you find,
Instead, lots of books to read, to occupy your mind.
If you're thirsty, there's plenty of water to drink,
We carry it from the spring, not from the sink.
On the wood cook stove, all our meals are prepared,
Where tasty home-made corn bread, can't be compared.
Getting food from the store, that's a real treat,
Cause here, we grow everything, even our meat.
When dinner time comes, we all go to the table,
Giving thanks to the Father, that we are still able.
Bathes are required, with home-made soap to scrub,
Right here in the kitchen, in that big old wash tub.
As the sun goes down, its time to go to bed,
But not until, every last prayer has been said.
From our open window, the whippoorwill we hear,
Causing us to forget, all the darkness that we fear.
In the middle of the night, when mother nature calls,
It's to the out-house, where snakes and spiders crawl.
Although, it may seem, our life here is simple,
It makes it much easier, to keep a clean temple.
We hope you have enjoyed, your visit here today.
As for us, we may leave, but our hearts will always stay.
