Rushing into his open arms to feel the warmth and love, I am searching in his eyes for the twinkle of excitement for the hidden prize he carries in his coat pocket. Strong arms lift me until I am soaring in the clouds; laughter fills our every breath. I reach into his pocket finding a beautiful trinket, thoughtfully selected for me.
Understanding warmth glows from his face, as I see he is pleased with the small image of himself, wound through the curls surrounding my face. Precious words of praise flow like sweet syrup from his lips as he reassures me, “You are a priceless beauty to behold”. I know I am a special gift to him.

Drifting slowly out from the fog of sleep, light begins to awaken me from my drowsy thoughts. I realize now, and for all days to come, he is the dream of my needs in life, yet this is not my father.
