I never knew my grandpa. My Grandpa on my dad's side lived in Nebraska, and died when I was nine. My grandpa on my mom's died in 1950, and I was born in 1964.

If I had a grandpa. I would have hoped that he would have treated me like a friend, not like a parent. I would have liked my grandpa to be my best friend. Who could of listened to me when I was hurting.

If I had a grandpa. I would have liked a grandpa who would have been athletic. Maybe I could of became a athlete, and scored the winning goal in overtime at the state high school hockey tournament.

If I had a grandpa. I would of liked having someone who was smart. Who would of helped me with my homework. Then I could have aced all of my tests

If I had a grandpa. I wish he would have had carpentry skills... Maybe he could have taught me how to build things. Then I could have been a carpenter when I grew up.

If I had a grandpa. I would of loved to go fishing with him. I would of learned catch real fish. After all there are 10,000 places to fish in Minnesota.

I will never know what it would have been like, because I never had a grandpa.

This had a wistful mood, sweetly sad.

You got this right about half the time, but sometimes not: it should be "could have'" and "would have", not of. It's a common mistake, because when we speak, we say "could've" and "would've", and it sounds like "of".

The fact that you missed the good influence of a grandfather is a testimony to the importance of these kinds of relationships. Maybe when you get to Heaven, that wonderful relationship can begin!

This is kind of sad. I'm sorry that you never had a chance to get to know your grandpa. God had a reason for taking him though. Hopefully you will have an opportunity to become a grandpa someday (if you aren't already one).

Thank you for sharing.
