Roast Chicken
I rolled over and looked at my husband
he was snoring away. Sam sleeps in
these days because his job has been
out sourced (moved) to another state.
I got up quietly and went to take a shower
and make some coffee. I was already dreading
the morning drive into work and the day
that was set before me.
An hour later I found myself in the middle
of a traffic jam. The news on the radio was
talking about world issues and the regular
daily crisis . I reached over and changed the
station to music. Twenty minutes later I arrived
at the office I was five minutes late.
Good morning Susan any messages for me?
There on your desk your Honor, Susan said;
as she looked up over the top of her glasses
with her usual smile and quiet spirit.
I walked into my chambers and with a
heavy sigh; I dropped my purse and brief case
on the leather sofa. I stood there looking all
around the room but my eyes stopped
at all the degrees that hung on the walls.
Suddenly I realized just how short life really is.
As the day dragged on and on all I
could think about was everything I had waiting
for me at home. Dusting, vacuuming, laundry
cooking dinner and cleaning the bathrooms.
I glanced up at the clock that hung over the
doors which kept us all locked in and realized it
was time to go. I picked up my gavel and hit
it on the little piece of wood with all the dents
on it from past years and said ladies and gentlemen
court dismissed until nine am Tuesday morning.
On my drive home I listened to a tape a friend gave
me it was a lesson on John 3:16 these words,
For God so loved the world He GAVE us His only Son.
I kept hearing those words in my mind, God GAVE
us His Son His only Son! Could I give up my son?
For whosoever probably not! Just as the tape
ended I pulled into the drive way and opened
the garage door with my opener and parked my car.
I got out and grab my things from the back seat and went
into the mud room that was attached to the garage.
I kicked off my shoes and set my things down I smell
something really good, was that roast chicken?
I walked into the kitchen and realized dinner
was in the oven and not only that the kitchen was
sparkling clean and the table was set for dinner.
I saw a sticky note attached to the flower vase on
the table be back by six love Sam. Well, I thought
I’ll go get done what I can before dinner. I noticed
a fresh clean smell “wow”! my room is cleaned
“oh!” so is the bathroom I was so excited!
I changed my clothes and went to the kitchen
as I looked out the window I saw Sam coming
out of the woods with his shot gun hanging
over his shoulder. I could not resist it I ran
to the back door, opened it and ran out,
Sam looked up just in time to catch me in
his arms he looked so surprised.
What’s this all about he said. I just want
you to know how much I appreciate
and love you that’s all!
